New President New Day. I didn't realize just how negative I'd become until the wave of relief hit me. The inauguration of a new president, the acknowledgement of the hardest of times, the renewal of hope and dreams now allowed, and celebrated in song and poetry-- I hope it had as strong an impact on everyone as it had on me. We need the strength to repair the damage done to democracy that culminated in the insurrection and murderous riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6. It was instigated by Trump and carried out by militants who had become so brainwashed that they believed the election had been stolen and they were the heroes. It did not succeed. But it could have. The legitimate results of an election could have been overturned by chaos and a President that knew no limits.
This summer I read a book that sent me back to Europe in the 1930s --On Tyranny, by Timothy Snyder.
